What do you want to make happen for yourself?

Take a moment, right now, to ask yourself what you want to make happen in the next three years ... professional achievement, personal triumph, financial security, toys and treats, community contribution, fun and inner peace.

What do you need to do in the next six months to make this happen?  And who do you want to be while you create and enjoy all this?

Coaching works because we forge a powerful partnership that makes it easier to define and attain your goals.  As a coaching client, you drive the agenda, determine your objectives, explore your options, choose your next steps, and take responsibility for action.  As coaches, we offer observations, questions, methodologies, and tools to sharpen your observations, deepen your learning, and advance your action.

IdeaShape provides corporate coaching and personal coaching.

Corporate coaching

With individual executives and fast-trackers (managers and specialists), we focus on development that will help them become more effective in their current roles, stretch to the next level, and work in ways that are sustainable and personally rewarding.  Results can be accomplished in whatever areas are essential to that client's success:

  • Upgrading specific leadership and communication skills
  • Accomplishing critical organizational initiatives
  • Increasing capacity for additional growth and achievement
  • Leading with a more calm, focused, energetic presence.

Typically, we start the coaching based on a professional development plan created by the person being coached in conjunction with their manager.  This plan forms the core of our coaching agenda.  With senior executives, we develop a plan one-on-one, or with a trusted advisor of the executive.  Upon request, we conduct and interpret confidential assessments, including the expanded form of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®.

About 70% of our coaching time is spent on the professional development plan.  The client directs the balance of our time to other business issues that arise, or to personal issues that affect their professional success.

With team coaching, we work with the team leader to build a high-performing project team or work group.  If we're brought in at the beginning of the initiative, we can help the leader compose the team, set expectations, secure sponsorship, identify individual needs and concerns, build commitment to a compelling shared goal, chart the journey, and develop productive team processes and communication patterns.

For teams already in place, we work with the leader to address conflict productively, separate issues of style from issues of substance, refresh commitment to the goal, build support for productive processes, manage work across remote sites, evaluate progress, and drive to results.

While we occasionally facilitate team meetings or lead skill-building workshops, our methods support the team primarily by coaching the team leader, as well as coaching other team members upon request.

Corporate coaching arrangements include two to four sessions of 30-60 minutes each per month (typically for six months).  Some clients arrange a quarterly retainer covering scheduled and as-requested coaching, in person and also by phone.  We can arrange a schedule that suits you and your organization.  While the company typically funds most or all of the coaching, the substance of our conversations remains private to the individual client.

Personal coaching

Each client directs our focus to the areas that matter most, such as

  • Professional success
    - goals for achievement
    - authentic and effective leadership
    - building high-performing teams
    - communication
    - personal brand and networking
    - integrity and standards
    - career direction
    - sustainable work patterns
  • Personal fulfillment
    - self-awareness
    - faith and belief
    - health and self-care
    - financial independence
    - home and personal environment
    - family and relationships
    - contribution to community
    - ultimate life accomplishments

Personal coaching arrangements often include three 45-minute phone sessions each month, as well as between-session calls and emails.  At the client's request, we also do assessments and in-person coaching.
